Holidays in the Big Apple

Guest post written by Dana Englewood

New York can be a harsh place to live sometimes, from the cold weather to the rough city terrainÉbut things have been really nice here lately. The other week we had Halloween, and it was great to see people dressed up in their creative costumes and I actually got to get to know my neighbors a little, which is nearly unheard of here! The little ones were so cute, and it was really nice to see the parents escorting them down the streets of Manhattan. It gave the area a real familial feel, and I very much appreciated that.

Back at the house, we had a bunch of visits from neighbors as they brought their kids to see my husband and me. We met a lot of nice people in our building for the first time and gave out plenty of candy. I was glad I had my new MiracleEar hearing aids in. I really enjoyed my conversations with everyone. It was nice that Halloween brought that familiar feeling into my part of the neighborhood. It really does my heart some good.

A Family Tradition

Guest post written by Jane Charles

Every family has their traditions and activities that they cling on to, and my family has football. The sport was a big deal to my father, and itÕs always been huge with my brothers, my husband, my children, and all the other members of our extended family. It really helps to bring us all together for some reason.

We all live in Dallas and every Thanksgiving we always create a day that is centered on Cowboys football. We have some items that make up the traditional spread, but we incorporate chips, dips, beverages and finger foods into the menu. We focus the day around the big game. Cowboys football is one of the things that we all have in common, and we really cherish that. This year we are already looking forward to our family gathering. After going into town to look at Miracle Ear Pricesfor my husband, I purchased new TV trays, party bowls, and also bought a variety of Cowboys themed items for the kitchen and the house. This is going to be the event that family talks about over the next few times we get together over the year, I just know it.

Going to See the King

Guest post written by Ray Bennett

This year, my wife and I have a chance to the legendary B.B. King in Atlantic City New Jersey. We have loved Mr. Kings music for years, and we keep a copy of his album with Mr. Eric Clapton, Riding With the King, in our car at all times. The last time we saw him was about 8 years ago. He’s 85 now and still going strong. I have a feeling that this year is going to be a very special concert.

For this concert, I am bringing my new hearing aids I read about from www.HearingAidsByMiracleEar.com, My wife and I don’t get a chance to go to big-deal concerts like this very often, and I want to make sure I get every moment of this concert. Mr. King is a big inspiration to me. To see that a man is still doing what he is passionate about at his age really gives me something to look forward to in my life. I play a little guitar myself, and I would love to see myself playing an instrument that I love into my mid-eighties and beyond.

Monitoring my safety

Guest post written by Veronica Evans

As a parent, I always took a hands-off approach to parenting and treated me kids with the respect of adults – that was until they got really out of line and then I came down on them even harder as a result. However, I think they’re paying me back for it now.

Since retiring, I’ve had a few complications with my diabetes, but am still very mobile. My kids, who live in separate states, have gone overboard (in my opinion) in making sure that I’m OK at home. There are home alarm systems and safety rails, which I really appreciate, and then there’s the constant badgering about other health concerns that are nonexistent to me.

But for all their badgering, they really do mean well and most of the time I give in and do medical tests that I know are unnecessary. One test that I thought was the same as the rest was a hearing test, but then I found out that I did have a need for hearing amplifiers and let my son talk me into getting some.

I noticed that it was easier for me to have conversations with people and am appreciative for my kids’ concern even though it’s a bother most of the time.

Watching the grandkids

Guest post written by Marie Carter

I’m not as luck as some grandparents that live down the street or even just a few minutes away from their grandkids. I live across the United States from mine.

But my son and daughter-in-law came into town a few weeks ago for his 15th year high school reunion, so I obliged them and watched the kids while they were catching up with old friends and classmates.

I couldn’t find a TV show to quite suit both Kimberly and Kelly’s taste so I popped in an old copy of “The Little Mermaid” that I happened to find and turned the volume up so they could hear it. That’s when Kelly put her hands over her ears and said “Grandma, it’s too loud!” I was surprised by this and turned the volume down so it wasn’t so loud. But I didn’t think it was very loud and had trouble hearing it after I turned the volume down.

So after my son’s family left I searched for miracle ear locations and read up on some invisible hearing aids so next time I wouldn’t have to worry about damaging my grandkids’ hearing with Disney princesses.
