Visiting my Best Friend in Japan

Posted by Virgil Burks

It's odd. Before I met Sayoko, I never ever considered the idea of having what one would call, "a best friend." To be frank, my friends were my friends and it seemed ludicrous to scale them on some abstract level.

That all changed in the summer of 2001 when my parents gave me a trip to Japan as a graduation present. Instead of going by myself, I found a trip that was sponsored by a university. I figured it would be more fun this way since there would be students from both the U.S. and Japan to associate with. Anyway, Sayoko turned out to be one of my room's Japanese students and we pretty much hit it off right from the start.

I mean we just clicked. We liked a lot of the same things, our humor was compatible and she was the first person that I have ever been able to just talk to. Usually, I'm a little shy and a little slow on the uptake, but with Sayoko it was different. We just got each other.

I seriously can't believe how lucky we were to find each other. If this had been just 10 or more years prior, the technology of that time wouldn't allow us to communicate the way we are able to nowadays. This year I'm going to be heading back to Japan for 2 weeks so hopefully I remember to set my home security alarm from AllHomeSecurity.com/!

It's just like destiny working in the lives of two people on opposite sides of the world. That one can have a best friend from a foreign country is not far fetched. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
