Baby at this age can probably focus on and track moving objects now. Try giving his new skills a workout by slowly passing a toy in front of his face or by having a little "staring contest" during which you walk slowly back and forth in front of him. Watch how his/her eyes lock with yours and follow along with your movement. This skill is a building block for hand-eye coordination, which will come later.
Why do babies breathe so fast?
~ Explained; At this age, a baby's metabolism is very high, which requires the rapid movement of oxygen into the body and of carbon dioxide out. To make this happen, a newborn typically breathes 30 to 60 times a minute, compared to an adult's 12 to 20. Why the high metabolism? "They're growing like crazy," says Jason Homme, a pediatrician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. "Babies will often triple in weight during the first year. It's the fastest period of growth in a person's life."
