A Jock learns to knit

Thanks to Wm Rowe

I am in high school and a football player. During football practice one day last year I got hit and fractured my leg. My time changed from going out and being active all the time to simply sitting around the house doing nothing. My mom always knitted, but I had no interest in this womanly activity.

A few days of sitting next to her on the couch with my fractured leg, I began watching what she was doing with her knitting. I asked a few questions and the next think I know my mom was showing me the basics of knitting.

I now knit almost every day. I am not nearly as good as my mother at knitting. I do not knit nearly as fast as my mother does but we have a lot of fun sitting next to each other on the couch knitting. We watch CableTelevisionwhile we knit. I thought my father would be critical of me for learning to knit, but surprisingly he has been very supportive and encouraging.

My favorite item to knit is winter hats. I have made numerous stocking caps and am getting much faster at it. I would like to knit some more elaborate items such as my mother does, but I still have a lot to learn before I get as proficient as she is at knitting.
